DC Police Pipes and Drums
DCPD
The DC Police Pipes and Drums were born in June 2008 under Police Chief Cathy Lanier and the direction of Honor Guard Lt. Byron Hope. The band is made up of civilians, recruits, officers, detectives and bosses of the Metropolitan Police Department and other law enforcement agencies within the District of Columbia. We were formed to represent the Metropolitan Police Department and assist other law enforcement agencies in ceremonial honors to include funerals, memorial services, graduations, promotional ceremonies, parades and any other event that has been requested.
Since our first official appearance in the 2008 July 4 parade in Washington DC the band as been very busy playing events throughout the greater Washington DC region. We were small in number when we first set out, marching with only 4 pipers down Constitution Avenue during the parade. Since that day we have started growing with a continuing amount of newcomers showing up at weekly practice.
Band members are expected to attend practice which is held weekly as well as dedicate their own time during the week to practice on their own.
